The Gown

There was a dress in the window,

Of blue and white chiffon.

The blue had a pearl glow.

She had to try it on.

The clerk speedily retrieved the gown,

Shimmering in her arms.

Not like her dress of brown,

But a beautiful blue charm.

No need to pin or adjust at all,

It’s fit, near perfection.

The perfect gown for the winter ball’s,

Treasured invitation.

She left the shop with a lively step,

Her happy smile ingrained.

Now her ensemble, she will prep,

With the perfect gown obtained.

She shined brightly, the night of the ball,

Stunning each of the men.

But t’was that night, that Heath did fall,

For the beautiful Gwen.

They danced once, twice, and then again,

Their eyes fixed on each other.

She chose him over the other men,

Which did so please her mother.

Heath had wealth and title to his name,

Gwen was just a commoner.

Their hearts full, they knew they felt the same,

Heath then decided to court her.

Days into weeks, and weeks into months

In each other’s company.

The father calls on Heath to confront,

What intention has he?

Heath opens a box to show a ring,

Approving, father nods.

There sat a blue gem sparkling,

Sitting in golden prongs.

Within six months, they were to be wed,

Heath and Gwen, together.

Reverently, their vows they said,

Their love a pure treasure.

Their legacy, generations strong,

Their story is well known.

An inspiration, to many a song,

Telling how their love had grown.

Gwen and Heath, a love pure and so true,

Sparked by a special gown,

Shimmering of pearl blue.

To Heath and Gwen, a love renown.
